First Canadian 6.0 Customer Completes Implementation of First Phase
(2/11/2010)

As the first hospital in Canada to adopt MEDITECH's 6.0 platform, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) plans to track its medical records more efficiently with the system's fast user interface, workflow-oriented screens, and secure Internet access. According to Chief Operating Officer Karim Mamdani, the hospital recently completed Phase I of its 6.0 implementation and the benefits are already beginning to show.

"Since launching Phase I in October 2009, we've implemented new operational processes and have seen positive changes in pharmacy and drug administration, health information management, and enterprise resource planning," he says.

"By Phase II, we can expect to see a complete transformation in the way we record information, as all information will be tracked electronically. We will see more electronic devices, reduced risk of errors, improved patient safety, and additional support for making clinical decisions. The need for searching through paper-based records will be eliminated."

Ontario Shores' partnership with MEDITECH has been driven by the organization's strategy to improve quality through accurate documentation and efficient treatment, while building a practical tool that provides real data and statistical information for its learning and research initiatives. Phase II of 6.0 is scheduled to launch at the hospital in October 2010.

"Implementing an electronic health record system requires a tremendous amount of innovation, dedication, and teamwork," notes Glenna Raymond, Ontario Shores president and CEO. "I am very proud of our organization for completing Phase I, and getting us closer to our vision of recovering best health, nurturing hope, and inspiring discovery."
